I often think of a Chinese gardening friend once saying how conventional her compatriots are with plant selection – bound (from their infinite variety of native plants) to a handful of species that ancient poets deemed tasteful. This Hairpin Banksia (B. spinulosa) – like a dark weeping conifer but with flowers – that perfectly suits an oriental style garden again reminded of what the Chinese must be missing out on.
